NEW DELHI (AP) — Malaysia on Wednesday joined India in protesting a new Chinese map that lays claim to India’s territory and Malaysia’s maritime areas near Borneo island ahead of next week’s Group of 20 summit in New Delhi. This has exacerbated the tensions between China and India, which are embroiled in a three-year military standoff along their shared border. The timing of the protest is key, as Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the summit.“We reject these claims as they have no basis. Such steps by the Chinese side only complicate the resolution of the boundary question,” India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said in a statement late Tuesday.Malaysia’s foreign ministry in a statement Wednesday rejected China’s “unilateral claims” and added the map is “not binding” to the country. It also called for the conflict to be handled in a peaceful and rational manner through dialogue and negotiations.India on Tuesday formally lodg...Broncos set initial 53-man roster with 4 undrafted free agents

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Broncos have set their initial 53-man roster for the 2023 season. The key word is initial.Head Coach Sean Payton warned FOX31 that the depth chart was written in “pencil” during training camp. So, we can expect the same with the roster.“I like the guys we have talked with and our plan, but I do think the hay is not in the barn,” said Payton. He and General Manager George Paton vowed to work through the night searching the waiver wire for players. The turnover from the 2022-2023 roster is a clear sign of the changes made since Payton arrived in Denver. Twenty new players made the roster Tuesday who were not on the team in any capacity last season. Broncos acquire kicker Lutz from Saints and trade Okwuegbunam to Eagles “The minute he walked in the building, he created a culture of accountability, discipline, detail,” Paton said of his head coach. “It’s all about the details with him—competitiveness. It’s ever-evolving, but I certainly like our offseason. I ...Photos: Angelfish at the Denver Zoo gets a CT scan

(CNN) — Users of marijuana had statistically higher levels of lead and cadmium in their blood and urine than people who do not use weed, a new study found.“Compared to non-users, marijuana users had 27% higher levels of iron in their blood, and 21% higher levels in their urine,” said lead author Tiffany Sanchez, an assistant professor of environmental health sciences at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City. There is no safe level of lead in the body, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency.Marijuana users also had 22% higher cadmium levels in their blood than non-users, and 18% higher levels in their urine, Sanchez said.“Both cadmium and lead stay in your body for quite a long time,” she said. “Cadmium is absorbed in the renal system and is filtered out to through the kidney. Massachusetts is moving in the “wrong direction” on tax policy compared to other states and state lawmakers can “no longer be complacent” as they negotiate tax relief proposals on Beacon Hill, local business groups said Tuesday.A panel of six lawmakers has been negotiating a tax relief proposal since late June after the House passed its version on April 13 and the Senate on June 15. The legislation, which legislators have discussed in some form for more than a year, sat idle as Beacon Hill dealt with an overdue state budget. The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs called on negotiators to “quickly finalize the first step in strategic tax reform that will benefit residents, families, businesses, and the economy.”The two groups want reforms of the “archaic” estate tax, reducing the short-term capital gains tax, rejecting joint filing requirements “that raise taxes,” and increasing housing, family, and transit tax deductions and credits.“To protect o...Live updates | Hurricane Idalia heads into Georgia

MOSCOW (AP) — “Deliberate wrongdoing” is among the possible causes of the plane crash that killed Russian mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin last week, the Kremlin’s spokesperson said Wednesday. Speaking to reporters during his daily conference call, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that “different versions” of what happened exist and “are being considered” by Russian investigators, including, “let’s put this way, deliberate wrongdoing.” A business jet carrying Prigozhin, the founder and leader of the private military force Wagner, and his top lieutenants crashed halfway between Moscow and St. Petersburg a week ago, killing all seven passengers and three crew members. The Interstate Aviation Committee, the Moscow-headquartered body that oversees civil aviation in most former Soviet republics, said in an online statement Wednesday that it was not currently investigating the crash, although the agency has...Latest news
