NEWTON – All historic streaks must eventually end. That day has yet to come for a Needham boys volleyball program that hasn’t lost a match since 2019, but on Tuesday, Newton North came awfully close. As part of an instant classic that saw the No. 3 Tigers (7-2) become the first team to win two sets against the Rockets in well over a year, No. 1 Needham (10-0) displayed its crew of elite playmakers to collect its 56th straight win via a 3-2 (25-27, 25-18, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10) Bay State Conference victory.Luke Lorence embraced its next-man-up philosophy perfectly with a team-high 20 kills, pairing with Raymond Weng (20 assists, 18 kills) and Devin Dellamarggio (32 assists) to lead another well-balanced win. All three proved crucial in every big moment that went Needham’s way, including a run in the second set that stole Newton North’s momentum amid a hot start.“That was a great game,” said Needham head coach Dave Powell. “Newton North is a really good team and they’re well coached. CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Taiwan intends to fight for itself in any armed conflict with China and is unclear as to what countries might stand beside it, the self-governing island’s foreign minister said. China claims Taiwan as its own territory, to be brought under its control by force if necessary, and concerns are rising about a possible armed conflict. In an interview last Friday with Sky News Australia, Joseph Wu said Taiwan, with a population of 23 million compared to China’s 1.4 billion, has to defend itself and is not asking other countries to fight for it. However, asked who might fight alongside Taiwan in the event of a war with China, Wu answered, “This is a very good question.” “A lot of people are debating strategic ambiguity or strategic clarity, but to us, we know our own responsibility,” Wu told the news channel from Taipei.“Taiwan has to defend itself, the people have to defend Taiwan, this country, and we are determined to defend ourselves and we are no...Anne Murray, Tom Cochrane and Sharon Hampson on Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘genius’ and influence

They were so personal and yet they all had such a universal feel to them and appealed to a lot of people … anyone would want to sing them.”Murray was among the Canadian musicians who paid tribute to the folk singer&...West suburban woman charged after recovery of $2.1 million in counterfeit luxury goods
