Local authorities and members of the Fall River Historical Society are working to learn more as questions surround a more than century-old bed that Lizzie Borden may have slept in while on trial in the 1892 Fall River ax murders of her father and stepmother. The bed has spent years in storage at the Ash Street Jail in New Bedford. It doesn’t have a manufacture date or serial number. But it does have a clue for historians, according to Jonathan Darling of the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office. “There’s this very unusual marking on the side that looks kind of like a face, or maybe a backward state of Massachusetts,” Darling said. Darling said there is a theory that the manufacturer could have used the marking as a trademark in place of their company name. The Bristol County Sheriff’s Office discussed the mystery in a message on social media earlier this week after officials said they hosted personnel from the Fall River Historical Society to see the bed.&...Orioles rally, hang on to beat Yankees, 7-6, in home opener at sold-out Camden Yards

Bryan Baker threw a 96 mph by Isiah Kiner-Falefa and unleashed a roar in chorus with the 45,017 raucous fans at a sold-out Camden Yards. The strikeout ended the eighth inning with the potential tying run at third base, and Baltimore closer Félix Bautista repeated the feat in the ninth as the Orioles held on to beat the New York Yankees, 7-6, in their first home game of the season. The Orioles had already lost a 4-0 lead and were on the verge of letting a 7-5 advantage slip away when Baker entered with two on, no outs and a run already in. The first batter he faced, Jose Trevino, tried to bunt those runners over, but when Baker’s first two pitches missed the strike zone, Trevino swung away. Gold Glove third baseman Ramón Urías, who doubled in the go-ahead run and scored what proved to be the game-winner in the seventh, snared a 105.4 mph ground ball to start a double play. Baker’s strikeout of Kiner-Falefa came with Oriole Park’s crowd on its feet and e...Clarke Schmidt’s struggles continue in Yankees’ loss to Orioles

BALTIMORE — The Orioles’ home opener featured fireworks before and during their 7-6 win over the Yankees on Friday.Following a pregame ceremony that involved actual pyrotechnics and Oriole orange smoke, both teams provided explosives via their lineups. Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt was hardly a fan of the display, as he labored for the second time in as many starts.Baltimore batters touched him up for five hits, four earned runs and 11 hard-hit balls — which are represented by fire emojis on Baseball Savant. Seven of those balls came off the bat at more than 100 miles per hour.Injuries have Schmidt in the Yankees’ rotation to begin the season, but he has allowed seven earned runs over 6.2 innings thanks in large part to his struggles against left-handed hitters.Schmidt gave up three earned runs and two homers to the Giants’ Joc Pederson and Brandon Crawford in his first start of the season on April 1. On Friday, rough second and fourth innings and...Ticker: US adds a healthy 236,000 jobs; Tesla cuts prices on all models; FAA eyes leaky faucets on Boeing 787s
