NEW YORK (AP) — “Space Disco Cowboy.” “Yacht Shabbat.” “Burning Man Formal”? More couples are tossing tradition when it comes to what wedding guests should wear, to some befuddlement among invitees.Maggie Long, 34, recently attended the nuptials of a close friend in a low-key Denver lounge. The suggested dress? “Dive Bar Semiformal.” Should you buy now, pay later for your wedding? “I love a theme,” said Long, who lives in New York. "It's fun that people aren't taking weddings so seriously, but I had no idea what that meant."After exchanging thoughts for months with the officiant, who is also a friend, Long took her outfit idea — a strappy-back, low-cut ultra-mini purple dress with a high side slit — to the bride. The bride deemed it a bit too “Kardashian cosplay.” Long finally settled on a longer gold lamé dress by Norma Kamali, and a great time was had.“There were a lot of vintage jumpsuits. One of our friends went full 1960s with go-go boots and a bouffant. A lot of se...US Coast Guard says ‘presumed human remains’ found in wreckage of Titan submersible

George Steinbrenner, he is not.The first year of the Steve Cohen era was a wild ride, but the wildest part might have been an owner of a professional sports franchise taking to Twitter to express his displeasure as often as he did. Fans took this to mean he was going to run the Mets like the late Steinbrenner ran the Yankees, with deep pockets and little tolerance for losing. But Cohen isn’t The Boss and he’s not a ham-handed Wilpon either. He confirmed that Wednesday by publicly backing manager Buck Showalter and general manager Billy Eppler in his first press conference since Opening Day.“I’m a patient guy,” Cohen said Wednesday at Citi Field. “Now, everybody wants a headline. Everybody says, ‘Fire this person or that person,’ but I don’t see that as a way to operate. If you want to attract good people to this organization, the worst thing you can do is be hostile.”Eppler publicly pledged his support to Showalter and the ...Auchincloss takes tax talk to Fox audience

A Massachusetts Democrat is encouraging his conservative House colleagues to reach across the aisle where they might find compromise on a tax package, instead of passing a Republican offered plan which is almost certainly dead on arrival in the U.S. Senate.U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss penned an op-ed published by Fox News on Wednesday, titled “I’m a Democrat, and here’s what I think Republicans should do if they want to pass tax reform,” in which the Congressman from Newton tells House Republicans they may be able to put together a package that will pass the upper chamber and ultimately become law, but only if they work with Democrats.“House Republicans have a new tax bill, and it’s more of the same. The Bush 43 tax cuts added more than $5 trillion to the debt and helped the rich. The Trump tax cuts added almost $2 trillion to the debt and helped the rich. These new tax cuts would add about $1 trillion to the debt, if extended permanently, and – you guessed it – help the rich,” ...Wildfire smoke will impact Massachusetts yet again, possible ‘air quality concerns’

Is that wildfire smoke and haze from Canada coming back to the Bay State? After the smoke plume made its way to Massachusetts earlier this month, meteorologists had warned that it could return this summer depending on how the wind blows. Now a few weeks later, it’s likely that the smoke from the out-of-control wildfires will yet again impact the Bay State and the local air quality. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s forecast for Thursday mentions the Canadian wildfire smoke in an air quality alert.“AIR QUALITY: Wildfire smoke from Canada will likely enter western and central portions of the State and influence particle pollution levels,” MassDEP’s forecast reads.“Fine particle levels will likely average in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range in these western and central areas,” the forecast states. “Moderate levels are forecast for eastern areas on Thursday.”Sensitive groups include people with heart or...Red Sox notebook: Marlins’ Luis Arraez a throwback to a different era

They don’t make them like Luis Arraez anymore. In an era of exit velocity and launch angle, the Miami Marlins leadoff hitter is an old school contact hitter in the mold of Rod Carew and Ichiro Suzuki. Since he debuted in 2019 nobody has been better at getting the ball into play and avoiding strikeouts, and now he’s making a push to become the first player since Red Sox legend Ted Williams to bat .400 for a season.Arraez came to Fenway Park this week in better position to challenge for .400 than anyone in a generation. He entered the series batting .399 and remained at that mark heading into Wednesday after going 2 for 5 in Miami’s series-opening 10-1 win.His .399 average leads baseball by 69 points, and Arraez also leads MLB in OBP (.450) and hits (113) while ranking fourth in OPS (.945) and fifth in offensive WAR (3.5).
