U.S. National security adviser Jake Sullivan doubled down on what NATO agreed to during its summit last week, saying it will be ready to admit Ukraine to the alliance once the country meets certain conditions.“We said at NATO very simply, Ukraine’s future is in NATO. We meant it. That’s not up for negotiation,” Sullivan said Sunday during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “That’s something that now all 31 allies have committed to.”NATO leaders on Tuesday announced that they would be willing to invite Ukraine to join the alliance once conditions are met and allies agree — a move that was first met with disappointment in Kyiv.Following the announcement, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted that he had come to the summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, hoping NATO would be an organization that “does not hesitate, does not waste time and does not look back at any aggressor … is that too much to expect?”On Wednesday, the Ukrainian leader walked back his criticism, saying: “I thin...Tornado watch, flood watch in effect for much of New England as powerful thunderstorms move through

It’s been an active morning with Tornado Warnings across the region. Stay weather aware the rest of the day. As of this writing (11 a.m.) a Tornado Watch is in place for a large portion of New England until 3 pm. This means atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms, capable of producing tornadoes. Any tornados that spawn would be brief and weak, but enough to cause some damage.Torrential downpours leading to flash flooding is also a risk. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings have been in place this morning. A Flood Watch continues through late tonight. The system is tapping into a lot of tropical moisture allowing for heavy rain and extreme rainfall rates 2-3″ possible. The ground is already saturated from recent rain and the intensity of this rain allows for runoff and flash flooding. If you live in an area prone to flooding, do not drive through flooded roadways. The main line of storms continues to move through midday and into the aftern...Tornado watch issued for most of Massachusetts, all of Connecticut, parts of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine until 3 pm; storm watch at Logan Airport

MONTREAL — Hydro-Québec says fewer than 2,000 clients who lost power Thursday due to a thunderstorm are still without electricity, but power has been cut to thousands of Montrealers today for public safety reasons.Around 14,580 hydro customers across the province were without power as of 11 a.m. Hydro-Québec spokesman Francis Labbé says public safety officials requested power cuts in Montreal Sunday morning that affected 8,000 customers, though power was restored to almost half of those during the course of the morning.Labbé says he doesn’t have specific information about why the cuts were requested, but notes they’re usually triggered by gas leaks or cars hitting hydro polls. He says isolated thunderstorms are also leading to new outages in several parts of the province. More than 392,000 hydro customers lost power during Thursday’s storm. PARIS (AP) — Actor and singer Jane Birkin, who made France her home and charmed the country with her English grace, natural style and social activism, has died at age 76.The London-born star and fashion icon was known for her musical and romantic relationship with French singer Serge Gainsbourg. Their songs notably included the steamy “Je t’aime moi non plus” (“I Love You, Me Neither”). Birkin’s ethereal, British-accented singing voice interlaced with his gruff baritone in the 1969 duet that helped make her famous and was forbidden in Italy after being denounced in the Vatican newspaper. The style Birkin displayed in the 1960s and early 1970s — long hair with bangs, jeans paired with white tops, knit mini dresses and basket bags — still epitomizes the height of French chic for many women around the world. Birkin was also synonymous with a Hermes bag that bore her name. Created by the Paris fashion house in 1984 in her honor, the Birkin bag became one of the w...Latest news
