To see the crowd that packed Mission Santa Clara on Friday to celebrate the life of Michael E. Fox Sr. was to understand a lot about who he was. The Saratoga resident, who died Nov. 3 at age 87, was a businessman, a husband, a political influencer, a dad, a philanthropist, a man of faith and — he would want said — a recovering alcoholic who shared his story to help others. The Rev. Peter Pabst — who celebrated the Mass along with several other clergy including Bishop Oscar Cantú — said Fox’s priorities were four “Fs”: faith, family, friend and philanthropy. “He supported causes that would lift others up,” Pabst said. “Generosity was an understatement.”Attendees stand as the casket of Michael E. Fox Sr. enters Mission Santa Clara de Asís in Santa Clara, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 17, 2023. Argentine presidential candidate Milei goes to the opera — and meets both cheers and jeers

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Both cheers and jeers for Argentina’s right-wing presidential candidate resounded with acoustic perfection inside the country’s legendary Colón Theater, laying bare the country’s polarization on the eve of Sunday’s runoff. The audience had gathered Friday evening in Latin America’s premiere opera house that is world-renowned for its acoustics to watch a performance of “Madama Butterfly” — but Javier Milei soon became the main event. A group began insulting him as he sat in the front row of a box alongside his girlfriend.“Milei, trash, you are the dictatorship!” some attendees chanted at the candidate. He has downplayed Argentina’s bloody 1976-1983 military rule, saying the number of its victims is far below what human rights organizations have long claimed, among other controversial positions. Some videos on social media also showed a few orchestra musicians playing the “Peronist March,” an anthem of the political party of Economy Minister Sergio M...

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Matt Wallace made nine consecutive birdies Saturday, all of them on the back nine for a 12-under 60 in the DP World Tour Championship.Wallace had a chance at the only the second 59 in European tour history. He had 202 yards to the green on the par-5 18th on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. But he hit into a bunker, and hit out to inches from the cup for a tap-in birdie. The nine consecutive birdies equal the European tour’s best by James Nitties of Australia in the 2019 Vic Open. The tour said it would not be considered a record because of preferred lies from overnight rains. Bernd Wiesberger in the 2017 Maybank Championship in Malaysia also had nine birdies in a row while playing under preferred lies.Wallace also matched the European best — but not an official record — with 12 birdies in one round. Raphaël Jacquelin set the official record in the 2013 Turkish Open.Wallace holed from 30 feet on the 10th hole and from 18 feet on the 1...

Las propuestas de Sergio Massa para llegar a la Presidencia de Argentina

Published Tue, 25 Feb 2025 05:44:11 GMT
