MobCraft, a Wisconsin brewery that opened a Denver outlet in September 2022 at 2403 Champa St., announced Thursday that it will close for good at 7 p.m. on April 23.“The closure is due to circumstances beyond our control with our Denver lease and myriad unfortunate events,” according to a statement from MobCraft Beer CEO Henry Schwartz. The brewery and its former restaurant partner Dee Tacko took over the former Liberati Brewing space in October 2021 before spending 11 months renovating the building (Dee Tacko moved out in mid-February, and MobCraft had been looking for another restaurant to fill in). Founded in 2013, MobCraft crowd-sourced its often unusual beer recipes before brewing them. The company still has locations in Wisconsin and is working on expanding there.“It is very difficult to close less than one year after opening. We were just gaining traction, feeling supported by the neighborhood and community, and truly loved contributing to the Denver beer and...Colorado Rapids promote Pádraig Smith to team president

Party in the Rainbow Parking Lot: Coachella isn’t for everyone, but if you want a more low-key outdoor show, with bands of a more mature vintage, head on over to the Rainbow for their twice-annual Party in the Parking Lot. Headliner is former Queensryche man Geoff Tate, while longtime Sunset Strip strutters Lizzy Borden, Faster Pussycat and the Zeros also play. That’s some spectacular hair metal. We reviewed the Zeros last year at the Whisky, and said that “There’s a gonzo-goofiness about the band, but that never distracts from the songs. Their section of the glam spectrum sees them blend the big glitter tunes of the likes of Slade and Sweet with proto-punk, in a manner reminiscent of the Dictators — brash and infectious. Those 4,3,2,1… Zeros songs, such as “Love’s Not Fair” and “Zero to Mom” are huge fun. And the guys might have a few more miles on the clock but they give it everything. Danny Dangerous is a compelling sight — a sort of deranged, purple-haired mime.”See t...Los Gatos councilmember halts code of conduct revamp amid lawsuit threats

A Los Gatos town councilmember says he won’t take part in discussions about clarifying the town’s code of conduct.Los Gatos is looking at clarifying the code in the wake of the council’s controversial vote to censure a planning commissioner for using “divisive” language, and the threat of a lawsuit from the ACLU.But Councilmember Matthew Hudes, who serves on the two-member policy committee tasked with taking the first stab at these clarifications, says he won’t participate in the discussion. The censured commissioner, Kylie Clark, is in a relationship with Councilmember Rob Moore, who is the chair of the policy committee, and Hudes said it’s not appropriate for Moore to provide feedback. He also voiced concerns about the ACLU’s threatening to sue the town over Clark’s censure.“Due to the current makeup of this committee, I do not feel it’s appropriate for this committee to provide direction or make any recommendations to the council,” Hudes said during a March...Suspect arrested in killing of San Francisco tech executive Bob Lee

Fresno’s plan to rename a 10-mile stretch of road after César Chávez has run up against opposition from Fresno County supervisors. On a 5-0 vote Tuesday, the supervisors opposed the renaming of the parts of the route that are outside Fresno’s city limits — four segments totaling about 1½ miles. The county resolution, which alleged a lack of transparency by city leaders, resolved to “maintain the names of California Avenue and Kings Canyon Road within the county islands” and to “discourage the Fresno City Council from proceeding with its plan without full and thorough consideration and consultation of their affected residents.”The city council approved the César Chávez Boulevard plan on March 9 and said $1 million would be set aside to cover the renaming costs and compensate businesses affected by the change. The route to be named after the civil rights and labor leader currently goes under the names California Avenue, Ventura Street and Kings ...Danville’s Jake Haener on verge of reaching NFL QB dream — just don’t mention Brock Purdy

SANTA CLARA — The first memory Craig Bergman has of Jake Haener was when Monte Vista High was finishing up football practice, with the local youth league taking the field.“They’d be coming on to start when we were done,” Bergman said in a recent phone interview. “He’d always say, ‘Coach! Watch me throw!’ and I’d watch this little tiny guy, a sixth or seventh grader. And man, he could throw it even back then.”It’s not a stretch to suggest that the “little tiny guy,” at 6-foot and 208 pounds, is still regarded that way in NFL circles and has been striving to prove himself ever since.Haener, a Fresno State product, believes he’ll be selected between the third and fifth rounds of the NFL Draft, which begins in two weeks. He offered the following observations regarding his supposed limitations during a media scrum Wednesday after his practice at the 49ers’ local pro day:— “I’ve been fighting the naysayers, the doubters, fo...Latest news
