Inmate dies in Douglas County jail, investigation underway An inmate at the Douglas County Detention Center died Wednesday morning, sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.At 5 a.m. Wednesday, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies stationed at the county detention center responded to an inmate suffering an unknown medical issue, according to a Thursday news release from the department.When deputies arrived, the inmate was unconscious and not breathing, the news release stated.Deputies immediately started lifesaving efforts on-scene and transported the inmate to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared dead by medical staff, the release stated.According to the release, there were no signs of a physical altercation or suspicious activity, but the investigation is ongoing.The Douglas County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy Thursday and is expected to release the inmate’s name and cause of death later Thursday afternoon.This is a developing story.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Driver was drun...
