MEXICO CITY (AP) — The U.S. government thanked Mexico for arresting a hyper violent alleged Sinaloa cartel security chief, but according to details released Friday, the detention may have been highly personal for the Mexican army. Pérez Salas served as head of security for Guzman and his brothers, who are collectively known as the “Chapitos.”Soldiers caught Guzman but later were ordered to release him to avoid bloodshed. In order to pressure the army to release Guzman, cartel gunmen had surrounded the army families...

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — In the 10 years that it has been operating in New Jersey, internet casino gambling has generated nearly $7 billion in revenue for casinos and their affiliates, sent over a billion dollars in tax revenue to the state’s coffers and helped keep Atlantic City’s nine casinos afloat while they were shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. So why hasn’t it caught on more widely across America?Currently, only six states offer internet casino gambling: New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia. (Nevada offers internet poker but not online casino games; Rhode Island has passed an online casino bill, but it is not expected to go into effect until March 2024.)Casino operators, online gambling companies, analysts and elected officials offer a number of reasons why they think it has yet to expand more widely: among them, including fears (unfounded, analysts say) that internet gambling will draw gamblers away from physica...

(NEXSTAR) — The saying has always been “money can’t buy happiness,” but a new poll shows that may not actually be the case. Empower, a financial services company, surveyed more than 2,000 Americans about their financial happiness. Almost 60% said that money can indeed buy happiness, but it comes with a hefty price tag: $1.2 million. The “magic number” varied across generations, according to Empower. It was Millennials that had the steepest ask at almost $1.7 million. That vastly outweighed almost every other generation. The slightly older Gen X age group said, on average, that it would take slightly more than $1.2 million to make them financially happy. For the Boomer generation, it would take just less than $1 million. The youngest, Gen Z, had the lowest price point at $487,711. Here’s the average net worth of Americans by age. How do you stack up? Researchers pointed to the 2008 financial crisis, the COVID pandemic, and our current inflation as likely pain po...
